Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 7, 2026
1. Introduction
Fly Hangar, LLC (“Hangar,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Hangar, a social flight tracking application, website, live tracking pages, widgets, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have.
Hangar is built around aviation, location, safety, media, community, and subscription features. Some features work only if you choose to provide certain permissions or information, such as location, motion, contacts, photos, notifications, or payment status.
2. Information We Collect
Account, Profile, and Authentication Information
We collect information you provide when creating or managing an account, such as your name, display name, username, email address, phone number, profile photo, biography, home airport, pilot status, certificates, ratings, aircraft, tail numbers, social links, preferences, and other profile fields. If you sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook, email, phone, or another authentication provider, we receive information needed to authenticate your account.
Location, Flight, Motion, and Sensor Information
With your permission, we collect precise location and flight-related telemetry to provide automatic flight detection, live tracking, maps, flight logs, safety notifications, heatmaps, stats, debugging, and tracking quality improvements. This may include GPS coordinates, altitude, speed, heading, timestamps, horizontal and vertical accuracy, route points, departure and arrival airports, flight duration, distance, aircraft identifiers, barometric or motion data, geofence events, background wake events, local network receiver status, and ADS-B or flight data from external receivers and aviation data providers.
If you grant “Always Allow” location permission or enable background tracking features, Hangar may collect location in the background, when the app is relaunched by iOS for location events, when a silent push or Live Activity update is used to maintain a flight session, or when your tracking settings indicate that a flight may be starting, active, ending, or recoverable. You can disable location permissions in iOS settings, but automatic flight detection and live tracking may not work.
Contacts and Safety Contacts
If you grant Contacts permission, we may read names and phone numbers from your device contacts to help you find other Hangar users or choose safety contacts. We send contact phone numbers to our servers to look for matching Hangar users. We store safety contacts only when you choose to add them, and we use their names and phone numbers to send takeoff, landing, and live tracking messages that you request or enable.
Photos, Videos, Messages, and Other Content
We collect content you upload, post, send, or submit through the Service, including photos, videos, captions, comments, reactions, messages, group content, event content, airport reviews, airport or place submissions, support messages, and reports. When you upload media, we may extract and store metadata included with that media, such as capture time, GPS coordinates, altitude, or speed, to help place media on your flight, build trip posts, and improve the Service.
Purchases and Subscription Information
If you purchase a subscription or interact with a paywall, we collect subscription status, entitlement information, product identifiers, transaction state, RevenueCat identifiers, and related purchase metadata. We do not receive your full payment card information from Apple.
Device, Usage, Analytics, Diagnostics, and Web Information
We collect device and usage information such as app version, build number, device type, operating system, time zone, push notification token, Firebase installation or user identifiers, feature usage, paywall events, search queries, map interactions, viewed content, crash logs, performance data, IP address, browser information, cookies or similar technologies on our websites, and other diagnostic data. We use tools such as Firebase, Crashlytics, Mixpanel, and similar providers to understand usage, fix bugs, measure product performance, and improve Hangar.
Information From Other Users and Third Parties
Other users may provide information about you when they follow you, tag you, message you, invite you to groups, report content, or add you as a safety contact. We may also receive information from service providers and aviation data sources, such as Apple, Google, Firebase, Mapbox, ArcGIS, FlightAware/AeroAPI, ADS-B data providers, Mux, RevenueCat, Superwall, Mixpanel, Facebook SDKs, Twilio or other messaging providers, and app stores.
3. How We Use Your Information

- Operate, maintain, debug, secure, and improve the Service
- Create and authenticate accounts, sync profile data, and prevent fraud or abuse
- Detect, record, recover, upload, and display flights and flight-related activity
- Provide maps, live tracking, flight replays, airport pages, heatmaps, statistics, wrapped summaries, and other aviation features
- Send push notifications, Live Activity updates, emails, in-app messages, and safety contact text messages
- Enable social features such as public profiles, follows, groups, comments, reactions, direct messages, airport chats, invitations, reports, blocks, and moderation
- Upload, process, store, transcode, display, and share photos, videos, thumbnails, generated imagery, and other content
- Process subscriptions, manage paywalls, restore purchases, and provide paid features
- Analyze product usage, measure feature performance, improve automatic flight detection, troubleshoot GPS or ADS-B accuracy, and review debug traces when support, safety, security, or product quality requires it

- Market Hangar, including by featuring public accounts, public flight posts, public media, public reviews, and public community content as described in our Terms of Service
- Comply with law, enforce our terms, respond to legal requests, and protect Hangar, our users, and the public
4. Advertising, Marketing, and Public Content
We may use account information, profile information, public content, general aviation interests, app usage, purchase status, and approximate or airport-level location signals to market Hangar, show sponsored content or partner offers, measure campaigns, and support future advertising or advertiser tools. If we use data in a way that requires additional notice, consent, App Tracking Transparency permission, or an opt-out right, we will provide the required choice before or when that practice begins.
We do not use safety contact information, private messages, or contact imports to create advertising audience lists. We do not share precise live GPS location with third-party advertisers for cross-context behavioral advertising without any legally required consent and choice. Public profile information and public media may be used in Hangar marketing, social posts, App Store materials, ads, and other promotional materials, subject to the license in our Terms of Service.
5. How We Share Information
We may share information in the following ways:
- With other users and the public: Your username, profile photo, profile fields, public posts, public media, public reviews, public groups, public events, public places, comments, reactions, leaderboard entries, and flight information may be visible based on your settings and the feature used.
- Live flight and tracking links: Your live or recent flight location may be visible to followers, safety contacts, the public, or anyone with a shared tracking link, depending on your settings and how the link was shared.
- Safety contacts: We may send your designated contacts text messages or links containing your name, username, takeoff or landing status, airports, and live tracking information.
- Groups, messages, and moderation: Messages, reports, blocks, group membership, invitations, and moderation records may be shared with participants, admins, or Hangar personnel as needed to operate and moderate the Service.
- Service providers: We share information with vendors that help us operate the Service, such as Firebase and Google Cloud services, Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Realtime Database, Functions, Storage, Messaging, Crashlytics, Analytics, Apple Push Notification service, Apple Sign in, Google Sign-In, Facebook SDKs, Mapbox, ArcGIS, FlightAware/AeroAPI, ADS-B data providers, Mux, RevenueCat, Superwall, Mixpanel, Twilio or other messaging providers, Upstash or similar cache providers, AI image generation providers, hosting providers, app stores, and customer support tools.
- Business, legal, and safety purposes: We may disclose information to comply with law, respond to legal process, enforce our terms, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets.
We do not sell personal information for money. Some uses of analytics, advertising, attribution, or sponsored content may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under certain privacy laws. Where those laws apply, we will provide the required notices and choices.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, preserve public content you choose to share, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and improve safety and tracking quality. Live tracking cache data is intended to be shorter-lived than account, trip, media, message, support, analytics, and backup records.
You can delete your account in the app settings. Account deletion is designed to delete core account data, your user document, trips, media documents, auto-tracked flights, safety contacts, live flight records, heatmap files, notifications, and Firebase authentication account. Some information may remain where reasonably necessary or outside our direct control, such as content other users have saved or reshared, messages already delivered to other users or groups, moderation reports, system logs, backup copies, legal records, and purchase records retained by Apple, RevenueCat, or other providers. Deleting your Hangar account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription; you must manage subscriptions through your Apple account.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Location, motion, contacts, photos, local network, and notifications: You can grant or revoke iOS permissions in device settings. Some features may stop working when permissions are disabled.
- Profile and flight visibility: You can use in-app settings to adjust profile privacy, live flight visibility, follower access, flight notification subscriptions, and related preferences.
- Public content: You can delete or change visibility for many posts and profile fields in the app. Public content may already have been seen, saved, shared, cached, indexed, or used in materials created before deletion.
- Marketing: You can opt out of marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us. Transactional, safety, account, and service messages may still be sent.
- Access, correction, portability, and deletion: You may request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.
- Advertising choices: If we introduce advertising or data sharing that creates opt-out rights under applicable law, we will provide the required opt-out mechanism. You can also contact us to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or sharing where those rights apply.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know the categories or specific pieces of personal information we collect, correct inaccurate information, delete information, opt out of sale or sharing, opt out of targeted advertising, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, appeal a denied request, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity before responding to certain requests.
8. Security
We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect information, including authentication, access controls, cloud security features, logging, and vendor safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Transfers
Hangar is operated from the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with permission from a parent or guardian.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. If we make material changes, we may provide additional notice as appropriate.
